Performance

Make no mistake, the Ford Escape is an SUV through-and-through. That means impressive performance, guiding you with ease from the city limits and into the unknown. Two turbocharged EcoBoost® engines provide plenty of power to take you on your journey, starting with the standard 1.5-litre 4-cylinder option, capable of churning out 181 horses alongside 190 lb-ft of torque. Step up to the available 2.0L Twin-Scroll EcoBoost® I-4 offering, and experience 250 horsepower, 280 lb-ft of torque, and a max towing capacity of 3,498 lbs. Both of these gas engines run smartly and smoothly through Ford’s 8-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission, featuring the seamless Auto Start-Stop technology for further fuel efficiency.

Not content to stop there, Ford’s engineers have turned the SUV-world on its head, now offering the Escape as both a Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid—without sacrificing anything in the way of performance. A 2.5L iVCT I-4 Hybrid engine pairs with Ford’s new eCVT (electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission) for 200 horsepower, 155 lb.-ft of torque, and an incredible 5.9 L/100 km fuel consumption (combined) rate in the all-wheel drive Escape; while that same 2.5L iVCT propels the Plug-in Hybrid version forward with 221 horsepower, 155 lb.-ft of torque, and the option to skip the gas station altogether on shorter trips. Bolstering its already peerless efficiency, the 2020 Escape offers an All-Wheel Drive Disconnect option, an intelligent AWD system that can switch to front wheel drive when necessary to reduce fuel consumption, drag, and wear on the drivetrain. Add in Ford’s Selectable Drive Modes, ranging from Normal to Eco, Slippery, Sport, and Deep Snow/Sand, and your Escape’s electronic stability control and traction control system will calibrate itself on the fly to handle any road conditions.

Design

While a great deal of attention was paid to the performance and efficiency of the newly redesigned 2020 Ford Escape, the exterior hasn’t been forgotten. Somewhat ironically, the sharpest-looking Escape yet earns this distinction thanks to its smooth lines; beginning with a pair of wrap-around headlights, the 2020 Escape offers a lithe and fluid exterior that manages to escape the conventional approach to SUV aesthetics, while appearing like it’s constantly in motion. You’ll find yourself constantly looking for excuses to get behind the wheel—not just to turn heads, either—thanks to the luxurious and roomy interior of this compact SUV. Clever design choices are conducive to unparalleled convenience, while exceptional materials command the utmost in comfort. Combined with the 2020 Escape’s sliding 60/40 Split-Fold-Flat Rear Seat Backs, offering up to 1,852 litres of total cargo space, and you’ve got a compact SUV every bit as capable as its larger peers. The 2020 Ford Escape may be relatively small in stature, but it’s big on everything that counts.

Technology

You may be sensing a theme here, but after offering such impressive performance and design there’s simply no way the 2020 Ford Escape couldn’t come correct in the technology department. The available SYNC® 3 infotainment system is the smartest iteration yet, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility allowing you to stay completely connected to your world without taking your eyes off the road. Available WAZE technology offers real-time updates on road conditions and traffic jams, so you can avoid the accidents and enjoy your destination sooner, while FordPass Connect™ offers unmatched access to your vehicle, its status, and the world around you. It also doubles as a Wi-Fi hotspot, able to connect up to 10 devices as far as 50 feet from the vehicle. Perfect for keeping your followers up-to-date on your well-curated campsite.

Safety

Beyond the connectivity features of the 2020 Ford Escape, you’ll find an array of safety technology ensuring you’ll end up at the beach and not the body shop. Ford Co-Pilot360™ comes standard on the new Escape, offering advanced driver-assistance technologies to supplement your own two eyes on the road. From BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert, to Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Auto High-Beam Headlamps, Lane-Keeping System, and more, the 2020 Ford Escape has you covered for all your journey might throw your way. And, if that wasn’t impressive enough, the available Heads-Up Display will superimpose the important info found in your instrument panel—along with various driver-assist features—onto your windshield, so you never have to take your eyes off the road.

Escape Model Changes

Redesigned from top to bottom, the 2020 Ford Escape shares the same heritage and sense of adventure found in previous Escape models, but that’s where the comparisons end. Now, that’s not to say that a 2019 Ford Escape or prior isn’t an excellent SUV that puts its competitors to shame—because it is—it’s just that the 2020 Ford Escape has revolutionized the entire segment. From the assembly line to the pony car, the 2020 Escape is simply another way Ford has driven the automotive industry further.
